Review: RalliSpec Intake The RalliSpec Intake one of the hottest items of the year and here it is on a MY99 shipped for a total cost of $360. Let me explain.First there is the shipping box, made of Genuine cardboard. High quality, designed to take the abuse of normal handling and UPS shippers. Then there is the packing material, Genuine styrofoam peanuts... Well on to the real stuff. The intake tube, it is a dark almost purple color and looks, well it looks like plastic. But in actuallity it is a lightweight aluminum tube with a thick pacardized coating. Very sweet. Next there is the Pipercross foam filter, housing and turbulance reduction pipe section. This is a one-piece unit made from spun aluminum. Very trick. This cone type filter is supported internally by an aluminum mesh that is also part of the housing. Inside the cone is a solid inverted cone of aluminum which helps direct air down the tube. The Piper Cross foam filter element is a thick piece of black material that is substantial to the touch and it is not greasy. Here is a quote from Rallispec about the Pipercross.

filters for dusty conditions only. overoiling has been known to cause MAF sensor failures so we prefer to leave the decision to oil the filter up the customer. If you do oil the filter the best method is to work a small amount in with your hands rather then applying the oil directly (and possibly overoiling it). You can oil using foam filter oil (if you have trouble finding some let us know, we can provide it...but try looking locally at motorcyle parts suppliers). As for cleaning procedures...every 30,000 miles is the recommended interval. To clean...dislodge loose particles with a soft bristle brush, then apply filter cleaner or soap and
water and allow to soak for 10 minutes, rinse with clean water (from inside to outside, no high pressure sprayers!), and allow to dry naturally. Thats it...the filter should last quite a long time, if not the life the car. If you do find you need to replace the filter we can supply replacements. Let

The catch can is an all aluminum construction piece that appears to have been welded together by hand. The quality of the welds is supurb as is the clean look of naked aluminum. (More stuff to polish. ) The cold air shield is a large sheet of lexican cut to fit between the intake and the engine bay. This piece is the only thing with which we had problems. (See install). There is more stuff like the spacers for the vent shield and the K/N breather filter for the catch can, but you want to hear about how it performs right? (Dang board wont let me post very long posts. )
